Asus is an expert on motherboards and the Company does not propose that consumer models: the D12-Z8PH SE / QDR, a map designed for the Xeon 5500 series (Nehalem) is a motherboard for servers and for supercomputers. And this map is unique in offering InfiniBand connectivity (communication interface provided for supercomputers) to 40 gigabits / s, an innovation that uses technology from Mellanox. In fact, little information is available on this card very high end, we only know that it will propose, in addition to the InfiniBand connector, an Ethernet connection to 10 Gigabits / s. Interestingly, it can be used in a cluster (for intensive computing) or via an adapter FCoE (Fiber Channel over Ethernet) or via an adapter FCoIB (Fiber Channel over InfiniBand), the latter offering more bandwidth (5 GB / s).
