Elpida Memory, Inc, Japan's leading global supplier of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), today announced that it has developed a 1Gbit GDDR5 chips (product name: EDW1032BABG), working with the world's highest rate of 6Gbit / sec. New graphics memory GDDR (Graphics Double Data Rate) means the first successful step Elpida market GDDR. For devices with GDDR memory and graphics processors are not only well-known video, but also various video game consoles and even the scientific and industrial equipment that requires high performance computing and is used in fields such as science and technology, physical modeling, digital image processing and conversion video.
In August, Elpida announced its intention to enter in the number of manufacturers of graphics memory and has acquired the assets of the German company Qimonda AG, relating to GDDR. The emergence of new products GDDR, just three months after the acquisition of these assets has been made possible thanks to close cooperation between the new subdivision Elpida in Munich, Germany, Japan's Elpida team and teams of engineers Taiwanese Winbond Electronics Corporation. Upon completion of testing in Munich in December this year, will begin delivery of samples of the new graphics memory, and mass production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2010.
Currently, the company Elpida participates in all areas of the memory market, producing conventional chip DRAM, GDDR for the graphics market, high-speed XDR DRAM and Mobile RAM for mobile devices. As one of the few manufacturers a full range of memory chips, Elpida expects to play an increasingly important role in the market of DRAM.
