Digital imaging expert Epson, pioneer on-chip Liquid Crystal Display (3LCD) projectors, demonstrated 20 years of global leadership in digital projection technology in an exclusive 3LCD 'Technology Forum' for its media partners. Together with keynote speakers from the 3LCD Group USA and Epson South and Southeast Asian Regional Headquarters, participants were treated to valuable insights into the booming market of digital projection, as well as key differences amongst major projector technologies in the market today.
Over a span of 20 years, since Epson's launch of the world's first 3LCD projector, the global projector industry has become a multi-billion dollar market. In 2006, this industry's market value of projection displays stood at USD 18 billion and is slated to grow to about USD 30 billion in 2013. Epson believes that in the near future, 'ultra-portability' will be a must-have requirement for business projectors. Projections system will be smaller, lighter, brighter and will continuously shift to higher resolutions. This will be driven by more compact transmissive chips like high temperature poly-silicone (HTPS) panels, the introduction of breakthrough projector lamps with superior light efficiencies, and more vigorous research into increasing the scale of pixel formats in tandem with the adoption of Full High Definition (HD) for business communications.
Epson also believes that there will also be an increase in the emphasis on WI-FI networking capabilities. This feature will enable users to connect projectors to corporate intranets and the Internet - moving beyond fulfilling the role of a mere audio-video device to become an enabler of multi directional, real-time communications, through digital streaming across borders.
