The Adventure of Sun's acquisition by Oracle continues. After some hesitation, the European Commission was informed that Oracle does not see a good eye for this, fearing for MySQL. This database OpenSource indeed belongs to a subsidiary of Sun. The main activity is the Oracle proprietary databases; we can understand the fears expressed by the EC.
The current line of the company is that customers of both entities are different and there is no risk to the market. Note that Oracle does not intend to do what MySQL ... This answer did not satisfy the Commission has therefore imposed an ultimatum to Oracle to enable him to find a better one.
So it was January 19 next we would have known what would happen to MySQL and the final Sun. Oracle, considering the time available be insufficient, requested a few more days, which he obtained from the Commission. The appointment is now set for January 27, 2010. This action by the company suggests they fear now really a negative response from the Commission.
Opponents of the takeover did not see that these few extra days will change. Florian Mueller, founder of the campaign "NO to software patents!" And advised the President of MySQL, thus states: "one more week will not change the fact that MySQL is in fierce competition with Oracle databases on all major markets”. He thinks Oracle should now "think MySQL to sell to another company.
