Company nVidia has patented method for optimizing pixel pipeline GPU. According to the company Marineza Hector, patent No. 7609272 describes the "help" shader in texture processing in such a way that the program can "fully" to use any additional circuits.
"Before, if necessary processing of large textures, read one team, and a shader circuit made several passes, while other schemes idle", ─ Marinez said. ─ "But the authors of the patent, Kilgariff Emmett and Rui Bastos, figured out how to solve the partial pressure of the texture. Breaking load the texture into smaller parts that can be completed in one pass, all the schemes can work permanently.
Marinez explained that the textures can be 32-bit, 64-bit or 128 bit. However, anything that more than 32 bits, requires more than one passage. "Before the invention of Bastos and Kilgariffa texture processing has been monolithic instruction, which served several cycles, leaving the other functional blocks to sit on their hands. Marinez added that unproductive graphic blocks allow the video card to handle more than one instruction per clock cycle through the use of other non-texture instructions.
"But for this solid stream of instructions, the texture should be split into pieces. Divide the 128-bit textures into four parts, each of which can be completed in one pass, and it lets you break a voracious instruction for four. This means that other schemes continue processing instructions, they no longer need to wait ", ─ Marinez said. "Kilgariff and Bastos also found that they can change the order of instruction for greater efficiency. For example, if the texture for instruction 1 is not available immediately, shaders can start working on the instruction 2. Instructions are not lining up and processed more quickly, ensuring a more solid game process.
Elements of a patent No. 7609272 have been implemented in a number of graphics processors nVidia, including the GeForce 6 family of products. This patent is also used in the RSX (Reality Synthesizer), GPU, nVidia drafted in conjunction with Sony for the PlayStation 3.
