Supercomputer market is still in an concerning the use of graphics chips to speed up their calculation performance. Now the company CSIRO has launched a new supercomputer that will place great emphasis on just its graphics chips from Nvidia manufacturer. In addition to 100 pieces Intel Xeon processor supercomputer will run riot 50 Tesla GPUs that are linked to an 80 Terabytes external storage device from Hitachi.

Decided to use the Nvidia Tesla GPUs will provide the computer system according to CSIRO from 10 to 100 time’s higher performance in the processing of scientific data.

Despite the relatively small number of calculation circuits to supercomputer able to reach a performance of over 200 TFLOPS, which is not to be despised. By making use of graphics chips, the computer should be able to compete with supercomputers that are more than twice as large, giving a clear indication of the effectiveness of the system.

Nvidia hopes that its Fermi-architecture should be able to provide supercomputer market, a big push in the right direction and it seems that many companies have already begun to feel for the graphics card manufacturer Tesla family.
