Next generation Atom processors will be launched in early January next year and the new Pineview family of processors will include the integrated graphics chip and memory controller. Although Pineview uses the same 45nm technology that today's Diamondville-based Atom processors will power consumption of the entire Pine Trail platform to be almost halved to the current Atom platform, just as the Northbridge of the external control circuit now moved into the processor.
Pine-trail platform is expected to have a power consumption ranging between 12W and 15W if we include both the CPU and the Southbridge. But sometime in 2011 is expected the first 32nm-made Atom processors show up and then with around 40% lower power consumption.
Intel Cedar View-D Platform is called to obtain a power consumption of less than 10W will mate with the same Tiger Point NM10 south bridge as Pineview, but the more efficient production technologies will thus further shrink the electricity bills.
