Thread: Synology: SIN cheaper but less efficient

On the market (NAS or network storage device), Synology's reputation is well established. Only constraint, Synology products - delivered without hard drives - are deemed to be a little expensive. Never mind, the manufacturer has decided to offer cheaper versions of its NAS, these systems 2 and 4 bays DS210j and DS410j.

Of course, we find the same software as other models of the brand, the Synology Disk Station Manager 2.2 which allows the NAS to manage their own downloads of BitTorrent files, to act as print servers, or to share multimedia content to DLNA guidelines, not to mention the iTunes server function ... among others.

What distinguishes these new systems precedent is therefore the material part. The Synology NAS are usually clocked at 1.2 GHz and board 512MB of RAM, while these two new models boarded a processor clocked at 800 MHz and only 128 MB of RAM. They therefore display lower performance, as pubs that capped at 27 MB / s write, against nearly 40 MB / s for DS209 +. Rest they are cheaper, since proposed from 170 € for the 2-bay model and 290 € for the 4-bay model.
