According to the source, by 2011 the price of NAND Flash will drop significantly. By that time, most manufacturers of memory chips will have time to go to the 20 nm process technology, but solid state drives (SSD) is still unable to overcome resistance to classical mechanical hard drives, and prevail in the market of computers and accessories. Market introduction of 20 nm NAND Flash memory chips, according to the manufacturers, to accelerate the adoption of computers in the SSD.
This opinion was announced during the discussion at a symposium in Taipei, dedicated to the information industry. Among the participants of the symposium were leaders of China and representatives of the Taiwanese memory manufacturers, including A-Data Technology, Condel Technology, JMicron Technology and Silicon Motion Technology. The discussion was also attended by Mark Lai, director of the alliance Solid State Drive Alliance (SSDA), and Chen Kingfang, vice-president of the Chinese Institute of Technology Potevio.
Industry representatives also called on Chinese companies in China and Taiwan to jointly develop and standardize specifications for SSD, as currently these technologies are controlled exclusively by the developers, and compare the SSD from different manufacturers is difficult.
