AMD and SiSoftware Company behind the famous Sandra - working on a series of benchmarks that will allow test functions GPGPU recent graphics cards using the standard OpenCL, including integrated into the latest OS from Apple. The tests, which will be incorporated in the 2010 version of Sandra, will include (among others) to calculate the fractal Mandelbrot set, a calculation quite common in performance tests. Of course, AMD insists that its latest graphics card, the Radeon HD 5870, is 2.7 times faster than the GeForce GTX 295 in some tests, but practice shows that NVIDIA - CUDA and technology - is much better established that the AMD Stream technology, while providing better support for standard tools. The arrival of OpenCL could make a difference, but it is clear that NVIDIA has a long-term vision on the most interesting GPGPU, somewhat at the expense of 3D, it is true.
