Company Intel postpones commercial release of its GPU Larrabee, which is due next year, and has not said a new date of issue. Initially the company planned to begin sales of the multi-core chip in about 2010, but, according to a Intel, Larrabee design a little delayed. Manufacturer does not report a specific reason for the delay.

Intel still intends to release a graphics chip and the next year to discuss future plans with their partners. Somewhere in 2010, Intel will provide samples of Larrabee developers, applying to them the tools to create and test applications for this chip. In September at IDF Intel demonstrated a system based on Larrabee. Then the producer said that this chip will be released next year, but did not name a specific date. While Intel keeps the basic information about Larrabee in secret, in particular, hides, how many engines will have this chip.

Larrabee will be the first discrete graphics processor Intel. Make described it as a multicore processor, which will be able to perform the tasks of the same type as the multi-core processors, but at the same time provide greater parallelism, providing more threads for processing. The new chip will be based on the x86 architecture and be able to fully handle the schedule. He will compete with offerings from nVidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which offer graphic chips for gaming and high-performance applications.

A representative of Intel said that some of the technology underlying Larrabee, can be used in future for the production of graphics cores, which will be integrated into processors.
