The world's second largest computer manufacturer said now placed orders for Nvidia's upcoming integrated chipset Ion 2nd A decision, if this is true, says a lot about whether Intel's new GPU-enabled Atom processors, or on Nvidia's new chipset. Intel with its new Pineview architecture to eliminate the need for an integrated graphics chip on the motherboard, as Intel itself provides its new Atom processors with an integrated GPU.
Now that Acer chose to nevertheless put orders on Ion 2 means it is likely that Nvidia's forthcoming platform is either really powerful, or that Intel's integrated solution is exactly the opposite.
Nvidia Ion 2, however, differs a lot from its predecessor, and in particular on the way to the control circuit now can be likened to an external graphics chip. When the memory controller and other features also moved into the processor, a Nvidia also do not have to think about in their Pineview-oriented chipsets.
Will most likely Ion 2-circuits to be used diligently in desktop nettops. But it will be interesting to see if Acer also find it useful to test the circuit on the mobile netbook market.
