Things are accelerating around the extensions for Google Chrome, the main shortcoming of the browser from the Mozilla Firefox. Still in draft, in beta, the catalog of plugins for Chrome is constantly enriched and third-party developers seem to finally start to get excited. So Google announced that 300 plugins are already available beta.
There is everything from RSS readers, Torrent Client, a plugin Facebook, Twitter, Gmail extension, etc. All this is of course available for Chrome 4.0 beta. A version of the browser available today for Mac and Linux, without extensions, however, can be tested under Mac OS X.
The importance of Extensions
Google is well aware that extensions are extremely important so that Chrome could continue to take market share, especially in Firefox. Besides, when you uninstall Chrome, one form asks the user the reason for the uninstall. And often, the shortcomings vis-à-vis the extensions are relevant according to Google.
Finally, Google says that installing and uninstalling extensions are made without having to restart the browser and plugins that do not affect the speed and stability of the browser.
