Freescale, formerly part of Motorola processor (the source of much of PowerPC processors), offers a new line of PowerPC processors for the embedded world and more specifically the networking world. The two new models, QorIQ P1012 and P1021 are for SoC (System on a Chip) with compatible devices that use the QUICC Engine technology (used to manage I / O) and are pin to pin compatible with older models, to provide a simple upgrade solution.
We found 1 (P1012) or 2 (P1021) e500 cores (PowerPC) which can reach 800 MHz with 64 KB of L1 cache (2 x 32 kb) and 256 KB of L2 cache (shared on the dual core), a unit QUICC Engine (RISC CPU), an acceleration of type XOR calculations (used for AES encryption, etc.), three Ethernet controllers to 1 gigabit / s, two PCI-Express lines and a southbridge that supports USB 2.0 and SD storage. The SoC supports DDR2 or DDR3 memory (thanks to its integrated memory controller).
Freescale is essentially the market of telecommunications equipment, indicating that the processors are provided for PBX, routers, etc.
