Sun Microsystems has announced the launch of the Sun Fire X4640, x86 server manufacturer that has as one of the fastest in the world. In 4U, the server can accommodate 4 or 8 hex-core processor Opteron 8431 (2.4 GHz) or 8435 (2.6 GHz), which represents a maximum of 48 hearts.

512 GB memory, 48 cores

Eight slots of RAM per socket is present, a maximum total capacity of 512 GB (using strips of 8 Go). There are also four storage bays for hard drives SAS 2.5-inch, and a DVD burner.Network side, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port dedicated to the administration server, are available. Finally, there are 6 PCI-Express, 2 PCI-X and redundant power supplies with a power of 1133 watts.

Certified to work with Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise and VMware ESX.
