SuperSpeed USB 3.0 is a major boost for external storage devices that can reach theoretical speeds of many hundreds of megabytes per second. Although conventional mechanical hard drives can enjoy the great improvements in rates in the older USB 2.0 standard, there is much more to take off.

Something is now the manufacturer intends to use the LaCie market's first external USB 3.0 storage device with dual hard drives. In a RAID 0 configuration to be LaCie 2big USB 3.0 provide transfer rates up to 275MB / s.

LaCie has developed the new storage device with the chip manufacturer Symwave Inc. behind SATA RAID controller with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 support.

LaCie is expected to reveal more information about the device during CES on 7-10 January.
