ATIC (Advanced Technology Investment Company) has finalized its takeover of the Singapore foundry Chartered. All steps have been passed without incident, and Chartered will be integrated operations GlobalFoundries when the acquisition becomes effective Thursday. Chartered disappear when the various stock exchanges, and just before the end of the year, shareholders will be paid.

Early in the year 2010, GlobalFoundries will become one of the largest foundries in the semiconductor world, less than a year after its creation. The competition between TSMC and GloFo should be fierce in 2010, while Taiwan is struggling to meet its orders for wafers (wafer) in 40 nanometers. While nothing is done, AMD and NVIDIA could well decide to go through GloFo to burn their future GPUs.
