Taiwan-based Compal Electronics believes that the supply of notebooks up in December reached 3.8-3.9mln units, and a substantial part of this amount will be accounted for netbooks, Acer and Toshiba.

According to Compal, notebook shipments reached their peak monthly sales for 2009 in November, 4.5mln units. Although the delivery in December decreased slightly, the strong sales of netbooks supported the overall notebook sales in the majority of producers.

Analysts note that, although in January 2010 notebook shipments will decline, increasing demand on the Asian market before the Chinese New Year will facilitate the stabilization of sales at a high enough level. Nevertheless, sales of notebooks in the first quarter, as usual, will decrease by 10-15%, while there is also a risk that the lack of components will lead to even more significant reduction in supply.
