It no longer has the OLPC (One Laptop per Child) that allows residents of countries in the developing world from getting the XO laptop low-cost, planned for kids. A PC frequently circulated for free of charge, as for each copy of XO purchased in developed countries; OLPC has a machine similar to a needy child.

But OLPC does not stop their way and wants to be able to regularly offer new versions of its XO, taking into account the major technological developments of the computer market. Thus, the association unveiled the first images of the prototype of XO 3.0 takes the form of a touch pad. A tablet according to OLPC, may return less than $ 100 to produce by 2012. Nicholas Negroponte, head of OLPC, will even say that this tablet is designed as a single sheet of flexible plastic ... amazing.

And in the short term?

But we are not there and Acualités OLPC runs more about the XO 1.5, planned for the end of the year. A new evolution of the classic XO switching to AMD Geode for a VIA chip faster, doubling performance. Memory and storage capacity will be doubled. The new version of the laptop would be about $ 200 and be available from January 2010. Comes shortly after the XO 1.75 which would increase to an ARM processor, allowing the machine to gain autonomy and be less expensive to produce (about $ 150). It should be noted that to date are 1.4 million children living in 35 emerging countries which are fitted with XO.
