A new variant of the Koobface worm, which has already wreaked havoc for millions of Facebook and Twitter users. looks like it's going to target Skype next. Not only does the worm steal users' demographic data, but it also signs itself into their accounts and initiates fake conversations with them. Any of a set of chat lines in multiple languages including "Hello again" and "So what do you think" will be sent to all the user's contacts, along with a link that will infect them as well if clicked.
Even more alarming, Sophos researchers seem to have uncovered a potential future threat to Wikipedia, Blogger, Yahoo, YouTube and Google accounts as well. The new Koobface variant searches infected PCs for login credentials to these sites, though instances of it actually attacking them are not yet recorded. It therefore seems inevitable that these are the next big targets.
