The Taiwanese VIA unveiled it’s first SuperSpeed USB controller at CES in Las Vegas. The USB and VIA is a history that goes back a long time, we remember the concerns of the KT133, which did not provide enough current to ports, and DFF user to buy a hub.
The Taiwanese manufacturer will officially launch at CES in Las Vegas its first SuperSpeed USB controller (or USB 3.0). The VL810 supports a theoretical maximum throughput of 5 Gbps (625 MBps) and is obviously backward compatible with previous iterations of the interface (Full Speed, 480 Mbps, High Speed, 12 Mb / s and Low Speed 1.5 Mb / s). The new chip will be engraved in 80 nanometers, allowing it to have a very low consumption and therefore can be used in laptops. We should have more information in a few days.
