LaCie is a prolific manufacturer of external storage solutions and the CES has now shown up the first storage solution based on Microsoft's Windows Home Server platform. Also known as WHS is a very interesting platform including signed using frequently. LaCie calls its new storage device for LaCie 5big Backup Server, but if this is the definitive name remains to be seen. The manufacturer has drawn some inspiration from his own LaCie 5big Network NAS and pushed in Intel's new Atom N450 CPU during the aluminum shell.
Unlike many other WHS systems will LaCie 5big Backup server with five hard places where most competitors offer only four seats. The drives are hot swappable and lockable.
In addition to one of Intel's new Atom processors, we find the 1GB RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, 4 USB ports and one eSATA port for extra storage.
The dimensions of the device are 178 x 220 x 196 mm and the design is LaCie's classic in silver and a large blue circle in front. Prices are still unclear but are expected to begin selling the LaCie 5big Backup sometime in the first quarter.
