MSI's Lightning series of graphics cards are well known among overclockers and enthusiasts. The cards, which are baked on the MSI's own kilns to provide maximum performance and overclocking potential, has been involved in several record over clocking and similar projects. When we are in mid-December last year, was told about a Lightning version of AMD's flagship Radeon HD 5870, we were immediately interested, and now MSI has released more details of this impressive graphics.
Cypress AMD's GPU has been printed on a 10-layer PCB and with the help of an overgrown power on as 15 digital PWM phases have pushed up the MSI card's GPU clock speed to 1GHz whole. This is a significant increase from reference clock at 850MHz.
To achieve these speeds, the MSI printed on what it calls "military classified" High-quality components. The card's cooler is the Twin Frozr II design and comes with five heatpipes and two large 80mm fans to keep the card cool, despite its increased clock speeds.
As revealed earlier, the card with dual 8-pins power connectors, and we certainly look forward to a bit extreme overclocking on MSI's new Lightning card. Launch date is still not yet confirmed but we will return with more information when it appears.
