The committee Vesa (Video Electronics Standards Association) took advantage of CES in Las Vegas to unveil the specifications of version 1.2 of the DisplayPort standard. This interface is now capable of supporting a maximum throughput of 21.6 Gbps, twice that allows the DisplayPort 1.1a standard.
New and improved
DisplayPort 1.2 provides also a few novelties. It is now possible to connect multiple monitors to a single connector, this new version of the standard is capable of carrying multiple audio and video via a single independent cable. There is also support bidirectional transmissions USB / Ethernet (channel throughput data from 1 Mbps with the 1.1a standard at 720 Mbps), support for HD audio formats and improvements in the 3D stereoscopic video.
The DisplayPort 1.2 support also has an utmost resolution of 3840 x 2400 at 60Hz along with 2560 x 1600 120 Hz (for 3D displays). Equipment as well as cables are finally DisplayPort 1.1a compatible with this novel version.
