Broadcom offers new dedicated chip devices to DOCSIS 3.0, used notably by Numericable in France. The BCM3382 SoC is to provide easily (and at a low price) a receiving device for users of the standard (the famous Box ISP) which supports, in addition to DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0, audio and Video over IP. Specifically, it is possible to propose a complete unit which will directly send the video stream (without bullets) to a PC or a decoding device and obviously support VoIP, one option became necessary. Recall that the DOCSIS standards allow - in Europe - to work up to 50 Mbps per channel, with a single channel DOCSIS 2.0 and at least four in DOCSIS (and theoretically eight). Specifically, the DOCSIS 3.0 can achieve 400 megabits / s down but the technical and financial constraints limit the effective bandwidth (in France) to 100 Mbps at best. Note that the system requires an infrastructure for efficient hybrid, with the main lines fiber optic cable being used - in fact - that the user to connect to the backbone (FTTB technology, Fiber to the Building).
