ARM processor architecture has taken leaps and bounds into the consumer electronics market in recent years. Through the development of more powerful architectures like Cortex A8 and future ARM Cortex A9 is using the smartphone market has grown into a CPU manufacturer to be reckoned with. Although ARM today do not compete directly with Intel, the world's by far the largest CPU manufacturers, as it is in most people's eyes just a matter of time.

With Intel's market presence and resources, you would think that the ARM would be a bit nervous before standing nose to nose with the processor giant. But that does not seem to be the case when the company's CEO Warren East believes that Intel does not have many advantages today.

He points out that while Intel is now far behind in the smartphone market, and ARM now instead begin to enter Intel's own home, with more mobile devices like smart books, e-book readers and tablets.

Intel as the ARM will not just be barging into the smartphone market and help themselves to the cake. But it will nevertheless be interesting to see how the two processor architectures (x86 vs. ARM) will measure themselves against each other in the future.
