Organization of (VESA) Video Electronics Standards Association has promoted a novel adaptation of the standard DisplayPort v1.2, which introduced a number of developments in excess of the previous adaptation of this standard. In DisplayPort v1.2 data transfer rate doubled compared with the DisplayPort v1.1a, rising from 10.8Gbit / s to 21.6Gbit / s (5.4Gbit / s per lane). This allows you to play Full HD 3D, provide high resolution, superb color depth, higher refresh rates, with support multiple monitors.

Last DisplayPort specification can handle a single display with resolution up to 3840x2400 pixels and can provide "multi-threading, with support for up to two screens with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels at 60 Hz, 1920x1200 pixels, or four. Data channel has also been expanded with a 1Mbit / s up to 720Mbit colossal / sec.

In order to evaluate the new specification will have to buy a system with support for DisplayPort v1.2. The new devices will have full backward well-matched with former models of cables as well as devices, with the Mini DisplayPort. VESA does not say just when v1.2 will appear in the final products, but, presumably, before that left very little time.
