A study by ABI Research asserts that the ARM processor models x86 exceed by 2013 the market for ultramobile PC. The study focuses on netbooks, MID, and the SmartBooks UMPC.
The netbooks will abandon the Atom
Analysts are betting that 2010 will mark a milestone in the adoption of solutions "non-x86" and that trend will reverse the deal while in 2009, 90% of ultra mobile embedded x86 processor. They also argue that the demand for 4G is coming mainly computers, explaining that smartphones are "a distraction".
The findings discussed
The findings of this study are not unanimous, because they assume that Intel will not be able to produce an interesting alternative and thus will be absent from this market a few years. However, the Atom has proven to be a serious competitor and a popular choice by manufacturers. In addition, the chipmaker has already announced that he had come out a model using less and better suited to meet the ARM. Finally, the vast majority of netbooks or UMPCs running a version of Windows that is compatible with x86 processors, which further feeds the doubts of skeptics.
