Intel just introduced the first NIC 10 Gigabit Ethernet with two ports and is compatible with the SR-IOV technology; it is the Intel Server Adapter X520-T2.
Better sharing of PCI-Express
The two ports can either switch from one to another in case of failure, or to combine the bandwidth to take advantage of 20 Gigabit Ethernet network. Using an Intel 82599 controller, the card is mainly distinguished by its technology SR-IOV (Single Root I / O Virtualization) that maximizes resource sharing PCI-Express machines virtualized by dividing the port into several virtual interfaces. They therefore have a direct access to physical resources, without having to go through emulation software.
Reduce bottlenecks
Finally, the Intel X520-T2 incorporates the Intel VT-c which attempts to reduce bottlenecks that can generate virtual environments. This explains why Intel is trying to attract companies waving the flag of virtualization, very fashionable at the moment.
The cost as well as it accessibility is not yet declared by the Corporation.
