Intel has detailed the first major refresh of its Atom chips. The new "Pine Trail" generation will have graphics and memory controllers on the CPU die for 20 percent lower power consumption and 60 percent lower space requirements. A new NM10 chipset joins the single-core N450 and 0410, and dual-core 0510 chips. All run at 1.66 GHz with varying cache sizes and TOP ratings. Interestingly, Intel has approved of an optional extra Broadcom chip for HO video, potentially negating the space savings. Nvidia's Ion 2 will also be supported despite the Atoms' new memory controllers. The new chips will launch in January.
