Micron announced its RealSSD-C300 solid-state device is already in the autumn and we talked even then about write speeds of staggering 355MB / s thanks to the device SATA6Gbps support. Now Micron has so finally launched the device for the consumer market that is indeed the first SATA6Gbps solid-state drive on the market through its consumer brand Crucial.
In the first tests are now encountered by the device, it is no doubt that it is precisely SSD market SATA6Gbps interface really belong. Crucial RealSSD-C300 reaches occasionally read speeds of around 400MB / s and even if the write speed is somewhat more modest at just over 220MB / s is this performance that may be most competitors tremble.
Performance in reading and writing small 4KB files are also impressive in the synthetic tests. But unfortunately, it is worse with regular use tests which are difficult to determine how much difference it would make in real use.
IO performance is not as impressive and Micron / Crucial seems to have to work a bit more on just the performance of enterprise applications, but as a consumer device for enthusiasts RealSSD-C300 appears to be an exciting addition. The fight with the new Sand Force-based SSDs is said to be interesting to follow.
The device supports trim and comes with a 5-year warranty as plaster on the wound for the price tag that should start at around SEK 5000 for the 128GB model. But it is the price to be able to brag about having the fastest SSD in their computer.
