Hard drives are about to pass a new stage of their inexorable evolution...

There is a little over a year, the first drives of 2TB made their appearance, and with them the first tray with a record density of 500 GB We are now at the dawn of the next generation, trays 640 GB TDK, a producer of components for hard drives (along with read heads), just published a roadmap indicating that mass production of the latter would begin next month. We can therefore expect to find hard drives to 2.5TB (four plates) or even 3 TB (five trays) in the current second quarter 2010.

As for the 2.5-inch hard drives, mass development of 375 GB platters will be commenced this month as well as it will promote the HDD of 750 GB (2 trays) including 1.25 TB (three trays). As each new generation, do not expect attractive fares on these new drives very high capacity, initially at least.
