Thread: AMD intends to submit chipset AMD 870

AMD has plans to release a new chipset, which is simply called AMD 870. This new product is the chipset HT3, compatible with processors with socket AM3 and supports a single slot PCIe gen2 X16. Channel does not say whether this chipset supports configuration of 2x8 PCIe.

It will be a discrete chipset, which does not have a graphics core and is made in 21mm FCBGA package. His TDP power 13Vt amount.

The upcoming chipset, AMD will make use of cheap SB600, SB700, SB710 as well as SB750, but it will not exploit the additional feature-rich SB850. His arrival is much awaited in month of April 2010; perhaps, it will be used completely for low-cost systems with low productivity.
