WD was in the autumn rather wait for the new storage formats 6Gbps SATA and USB 3.0. In conversations with the manufacturer, we were a bit puzzled about the same for their reticence would keep in length and with hindsight it seems that even WD themselves known the same thing. Hard drive giant has already launched the USB 3.0-based products, which already has major performance strengths to make. Although the benefits of SATA 6Gbps interface name are not directly measurable on the mechanical hard drive market is now the manufacturer also demonstrated foresight here.
In Japan, we now term a new WD Caviar Black hard drive with 1TB storage capacity and 64MB cache also supports SATA 6Gbps. The hard disk that has the product name WD1002FAEX which is expected by 3.5 inch size and costs equivalent to 1000 Swedish kronor, a slightly higher price tag than the standard SATA 3Gbps model of Caviar Black will.
How much, if any, performance gain support for SATA 6Gbps offers is unclear. The hard drive is rated for a read speed of 126MB / s but with a large 64MB memory buffer, it is possible that the new interface may contribute to some minor performance improvements. Power consumption is of 6.8 watts under load and the noise level is highest at 33dB.
It is in any case very positive in our eyes that WD now shows that it is having on the track in time. Now we are just waiting with bated breath for the manufacturer's first 6Gbps SATA solid-state drives...
