Since Intel has not do HD decoder chip that is able to provide a playback HD 1080p on a platform of Atom, the manufacturer turned to one of the competing solutions, Broadcom, and used it for HD chip. The latest Intel Atom platform, codenamed Pinetrail M can play HD 1080p with HD video chip BCM70015 Company Broadcom, and Broadcom will work with Intel to implement the chip.
Currently there are no reliable data on the pricing of the chip Broadcom, but you can say for sure that it will be cheaper than the Ion 2 from nVidia. However, the Ion 2 gives users the ability to play many popular games on the netbook, while Broadcom solution will be capable of only providing HD 1080p video playback without stuttering.
It looks like a small green nVidia Intel pushed the company to do something she did not initially planned as a "native" graphic Intel Atom will not be able to provide HD 1080p, at least until the next generation, scheduled for the end of 2011. Many users like to get support HD 1080p on netbooks, and the appearance of support for HD on the Atom platform could lead to a surge in sales of inexpensive, thin and light models of Lenovo, Acer, etc.
