Amazon has detailed plans for its Kindle ebook reader to use third-party apps. Already, plans have been annouced for games, city guides, and other "active content". However the device is largely incapable of displaying animations on its large but slow, monochrome e-ink display. This could either prove to be an enormous stumbling block or open up possibilities for unique new applications not found on cellphones. Apps will also have to be small enough to work with Amazon's global wireless Internet service tieups.
