The fee to become an Apple Mac developer fallen notably to $99. As said by Apple the new low cost of membership is in reply to the success of the iPhone Developer Program and the probable that apps from that platform might crossover to the Mac. Apple had in the past sold memberships to the Apple Developer Connection (ADC) chosen or Premier programs for $499 and $3,499 correspondingly.
The lately named Mac Developer Program gives access to Mac Operating System X prereleases, technical documentation, Xcode 3 and other tools, development videos, member-only developer forums, and two technical code-level support events. Additional support incidents can be purchased in packages of two for $99 or five for $249.
Instead, there is still a free version of the Mac Developer Program that provides access to Xcode 3 and additional tools, online resources, and error reporting. This is just right for students or for people interested in playing with Mac development.
Yet, the price drop also entails significant changes. The new developer program no longer contains major hardware discounts, 10 support incidents, and WWDC materials that integrated a WWDC ticket worth about ,200. Apple's complete FAQ provides full details about the transition and its benefits.
Presented ADC members can keep their current membership and get the benefits until next renewal time. Then, though, they will be capable of renew only under the new terms.
People who purchased an ADC membership on or after February 1, 2010, can get a refund, but only if they no used any benefits. If that applies to you.
