A well-known face might be causing a problem in Google's planned possession of mobile advertising company AdMob.The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is currently asking Google advertisers and competitors for more info about the potential crash of the deal. Those companies--which were not identified--are being asked to sign swear statements that could potentially be used against Google in a court hearing blocking or altering the deal, according to the report.

After being fixed flat-footed in Washington years ago by the reaction over the Double-click deal and proposed Yahoo search deal, Google came out wavering after it announced plans to spend $750 million on AdMob, a leading mobile advertising network. It had a Web site dedicated to explaining its side of the deal all ready to go when it was announced, addressing competitive subjects.

Still, in an era when Google finds itself under inspection from the government and interest groups just about each time it opens its mouth, a Web site perhaps was not going to be sufficient. Google already give the FTC with more detailed information relating to the deal, and it is not clear whether the FTC plans to use contestant indication against the company or whether it is still just collecting information.
