Students from MIT have built a pair of gloves to change a mouse. The concept is encouraged by the engineers, the movie Minority Report and has the merit to be promising even if no one talks about marketing up till now.
A PC at his fingertips
The concept is very easy to understand and the product demonstration is an evolution of a project that started last year. A pair of gloves is equipped with sensors that are monitored by a camera connected to the system that find outs the position of the fingers on the screen. Sensors are also placed on the gloves to check the movements and orientation of the fingers. The students, all cost less than $ 100.
Unlike a touch screen, we believe that a system for detecting hand movements to a much better chance of competing with the insuperable mouse. Less effort than increasing your arm to press a slab, it suffices to distinguish between typing on a keyboard and cursor control for a system that would overcome the device that has the least developed in recent years, provided it is adequately perfect. Obviously, it must also find a way to use this interface without needing gloves. In short, research on human-machine interfaces are moving towards the elimination of the mouse.
