PrimeSense has made official what we already sensed, that is to say that its technology is at the origin of Microsoft Project Natal.
PrimeSense and Microsoft
Israeli society has indeed developed the 3D camera used by the Xbox 360. However, Microsoft has reworked the sensors of the camera and the software layer in order to push the features available. It is therefore not a simple integration of technologies PrimeSense, but an adaptation, which will better explain why Redmond bought PrimeSense partner last summer.
PrimeSense without Microsoft
Specifically, this announcement provides some information on the technologies behind the new Microsoft product, but it also explains that the camera used by Natal should not be limited to the Xbox 360. PrimeSense has done demonstrations showing the product in a framework independent from the console of Redmond and if we do not know the nature of exclusivity contracts negotiated between two parties, one can imagine that within a few years PrimeSense sell licenses to manufacturers of television sets that could then enjoy a whole new interface
