AMD's growing market share by competitor Intel "occurs leg," said research firm iSuppli said. However, Intel is keeping the distance unscrambling from AMD.
In the last quarter of 2009, AMD's market share accounts for 12.1% of global microprocessor market, up 1.6% over the same period in 2008, iSuppli noted. Market share quarterly 4 / 2009 of AMD was improved by 0.28% compared with the preceding quarter.
AMD's growth is outstanding because they look like to have gained market share of main rival Intel. According to iSuppli, quarter 4 / 2009, Intel has been 80.6% of global microprocessor market, down 1% compared to quarter 4 / 2008 but up faintly compared with 0.1% market share in the quarter 3 / 2009.
"Both in 2009, the situation looks more balanced growth of 0.2% while AMD and Intel's 0.3% growth compared to 2008," said Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst at iSuppli said. "This is an interesting development because the average selling price of PCs has fallen significantly in 2009. Therefore, the AMD and Intel maintain their market share showed that none were extreme punishment by the survey and none were taking benefit of this situation. "
