A number of companies specializing in communications technologies are creating WiMAX 2 Collaboration Initiative to facilitate the adoption of standard 802.16m.

For a more rapid adoption of WiMAX 2
Work on this standard started in 2006 with completion expected during the second half of this year. The purpose of this new union is first to accelerate the interoperability with WiMAX as providing operators with a string of products and services facilitating the integration of this new technology. For this, players will propose common benchmarks, testing solutions and unified methods for preparing certification. The Initiative contains Alvarion, Beceem, GCT Semiconductor, Intel, Motorola, Samsung, Sequans, ZTE and XRONet and ITRI.

Go late 2011
WiMAX 2 should provide a flow rate of 300 Mbps, lower latency and provide functionality to VoIP. It is expected that the first WiMAX products 2 public land by the end of 2011.
