DisplayLink, the company based graphics card USB, USB 3.0 would test. A demonstration of the new cards has been made and the USB 3.0 would play 1080p video with no problems, that the maps based USB 2.0 are not capable of doing.
As a reminder, DisplayLink USB cards consist of a chip that manages display and 16MB of memory. The majority of work is actually on the processor: it compresses the image to send to the chip through the limited bandwidth of USB 2.0. The main problem is obviously the complexity of the image, which depends on the CPU load. Typically, the system does not convey what is changed on the screen. When performing an office job, only a small portion of the image changes and is transmitted and that part requires little compression. When you watch a video, cons, most of the screen changes and the image must be highly compressed and the processor has a lot more work. With USB 3.0, the additional bandwidth can limit the compression and therefore do not overload the processor. DisplayLink should offer its new chips at CES 2011.
