Association SNIA Storage Networking Industrial Association, which brings together players from the world of storage, decided to take a grip on data interoperability between Clouds. The consortium, as part of its project Cloud Storage Initiative, has completed the open standard CDMI, which should standardize the data migration between Cloud.
CDMI then proposes a standard method for describing meta-data in order to preserve when data is moved from one cloud to another, whether public, private or hybrid. Through various service classes, Meta just describe the data-inherent behavior of the data that the service provider must implement.
CDMI, which required the collaboration of 180 members of the group of dedicated work, is then a standard interface on which suppliers of storage infrastructure can be based. And make it possible, in full transparency, the exchange of a solution by a supplier to a solution provider B. Once the standard is implemented, the data transfer can be made without loss of some data - that may be critical for the company - and without having to re-code interface, says the website SNIA. The powerful association CDMI announced at the Storage Networking World in Orlando. The first implementations of the standard are expected during the second half of this year.
