Don't count on bringing iPad on any trips to Holy Land, as Israel has barren Apple's tablet from entering country. Israeli Customs is confiscating devices upon entry, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported. Authorities have seized about 10 iPads, as said by Associated Press, and tourists who bring their iPads into the country will have to get them back when they leave.

Israeli Communications Ministry blames the iPad's Wi-Fi, which allegedly utilizes low-powered "American standards" as opposed to "European standards" on which Israel relies for electronics. The ministry is now functioning with Apple and local distributor iDigital to agree import of iPads in country, but even when that happens, it's not clear whether Customs agents attempt to differentiate among American iPads and European ones.

Bar Tal reserved harsh words for people who thought they had right to bring whatever technology they required in country. "People who bought device in America can't force their requirements on other people," he said. "I don't get concerned in what persons do at their own cost, but you can't only be worried about yourself."
The iPhone lastly launched legitimately in Israel in December 2009, above two years after phone debuted in America. At the time, one importer told Haaretz that Communications Ministry again blamed lack of obedience with European standards.
