CEO Paul Otellini said, Intel will introduce dual-core Atom processors in the quarter 2 / 2010, trying to improve performance for low-power chips, is cheap. However, he seemed "vague" about the details and also not specified; processors will be forthcoming dual-core Atom for netbooks.

When asked about the possibility to launch dual-core Atom processors for netbooks in the quarter, an Intel spokesman declined to comment, said only that there will be some announcements regarding the upcoming Atom. If dual-core Atom chip for netbooks, it is the first such chip in this category. Currently Intel only offers single-core Atom chip for netbooks. Dual-core chips can speed up considerably for netbooks.

Intel has launched its dual-core nettop Atom for D410 and D510. Last time Intel introduces new Atom chip for netbooks was in 12/2009. The chips, code-named Pineview, integrated graphics and memory controller on the CPU, reducing the size of the Atom chip package to 70% less power consumption than previous generation Atom chip. Though, the microprocessor has only prolonged battery use for netbooks, rather than increased performance for many applications. Intel plans to continue to netbook performance by adding support for DDR3 memory faster than Atom. Later this year, Intel Atom processor also takes into devices such as smart phones, Tablet PCs, Otellini said.
