Microsoft Research engineers capable of working with ARM architecture systems for servers used by Bing. Indeed, the idea is to use Microsoft's server-based ARM and DSS to limit consumption of servers.
The low power consumption and ARM chips are worth the cost for servers for storage, although performance is generally limited. In fact, limiting the consumption of servers is obviously something that companies enjoy; they often require a lot of energy and therefore generate a large monthly bill.
Remember that Microsoft had already tested the Atom-based servers about a year ago, and the experiment proved that the concept was viable in some situations: the gain in energy was high enough to offset the loss of raw power due to the use of the Atom.
In practice, remember that Microsoft still does not offer ARM versions of its software for servers and the company must be using a third-party system to support its server farm if the choice of the ARM architecture is made.
