Apple has released a technical note on the Video Acceleration Framework, which should allow Adobe to take advantage of new graphics processors Macs to accelerate the H.264 video playback on a flash drive.
The framework works only on Mac OS X 10.6.3 and chip NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 320M and GT 330M. It provides a programming interface in C to access the capabilities of decoding H.264 graphics chips. You can download the add-on for Xcode on the Apple Developer site.
This framework is obviously not restricted to the Adobe reader, but that's what all the experts have in mind, not only because of its poor performance on Mac OS X and its high CPU utilization, but also because it is something that the editor of Photoshop has long sought. As a reminder, until now, Apple refuses access by third-party applications necessary APIs to take advantage of the GPU when decoding video.
