Intel is creating version of OS based on Linux Meego, will run on mainstream desktops and laptops, a company leader said.
Intel has released the first edition of Meego for developers in late March 2010. A publication for netbooks running Intel’s Atom chips a different edition for smart phones Nokia N900. Besides netbooks and smartphones, the company is focused on developing Meego around the desktop processor with a low level Intel Atom, said Doug Fisher, vice president Intel group responsible for software and services said.
The company plans to release an edition for nettop Meego which will also work with laptops, desktops orthodox run faster Intel Core processor, Mr. Fisher said. He did not provide specific release date for this edition Meego. However, a large amount of development around Meego will be focused on netbooks, smartphones and other devices such as TVs, set-top boxes.
A publication Meego for handheld devices will be released in September 10/2010, and the netbook install Meego will appear in the second half of 2010, Mr. Fisher said. Many laptop manufacturers have voiced support for Meego.
