Microsoft declared Tuesday it has finished the job of customizing Windows 7 to run on TVs, set-top boxes, digital signs, and other devices. Along with other things, the new software could let Windows Media Center on new kinds of devices, Microsoft said. The OS, called Windows Embedded Standard 7.
"With the launch of Windows Embedded Standard 7, Microsoft has furthered its commitment to the incorporation of Windows 7 technologies in the specialized user and enterprise device markets," said Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Embedded unit. It is already running on over 10% of users around the world. Microsoft first gives you an idea about the embedded software, earlier code-named Quebec, at ESC Boston in September.
